There is a new brand of wetsuits to hit the Surf stores of the UK and Ireland this month as the Californian wetsuit manufacturer Matuse launch their premium suits here just in time for summer. Matuse offer a full range of wetsuits and ancillary equipment all lovingly crafted from Yanamoto Limestone Based Geoprene.
Geoprene is a limestone based wetsuit material that is made from mineral calcite, basically prehistoric shells and marine life that has been squashed over thousands of years into an eco friendly goo, unlike the petroleum products that make up your standard neoprene wetsuits. The magic goo is then transformed into ichiban rubber and the resulting product is not only much better for the environment, but is warmer, lighter and more flexible than traditional wetsuit rubber.
There does seem to be a bit more to pay for the Matuse suits but they offer a full range from 2mm summer suits to a cosy looking hooded 5/4mm Tumo suit as well as a full range of other suits, hoods and gloves.
Don’t be concerned that Matuse are a new flash in the pan company, they have been around since 2005 and they only work with the best materials available. To find out more about the Matuse philosophy and to see more of their innovative products take a look at the Matuse website. Keep an eye out for the Matuse range in your local Surf store and let us know if you have had any experience with the Matuse products in the past?
