Over the last couple of years, we have featured articles on surfboards that have been made from wood, algae, cardboard and even one packed with crystal meth, but today’s article features a board that is a little more opulent. The board in question is a strictly one of a kind, limited edition from LUX surfboards. The 24 karat gold gilded board called The Aureus, comes with a price tag of £125000.
The board is a collaboration between North Devon shaper Ellie Miller and gilding expert Danni Bradford and although somewhat extravagant, the surfboard is fully functional and should the buyer feel inclined they will happily be able to take it out for a surf. Ellie has drawn inspiration for the single fin from the boards of the 70’s and the exact dimensions are 6’8” x 20½” x 3”.
The Aureus is available to buy should you scoop the Lotto jackpot tonight, but will first be displayed in Barnstaple before heading off to London to go on show in the big smoke. What do you make of this opulent and unrestrained surfboard? If you had the money is it something you would like and would you ever dare to take it for a slide? Check out the board in all it’s glory and in the brine in the video below.
