I love Paddleboarding with a passion, I also love playing my guitar, but one thing I have never thought to do, was to try and combine the two. Michael Dolsey is a Paddleboarder from Virginia Beach who decided that guitar playing SUP riding should be tried and he has published a video of him doing just that. Appropriately, Michael also chose the tune Wipeout as the song to play whilst catching and riding a wave on his Paddleboard.
Michael actually does quite well to paddle his board with a guitar strapped to his back and an amp balanced between his legs and manages to pick up a wave without any mishaps. As soon as he catches the wave, he spins the guitar to the front and begins plucking away. Unfortunately the sound quality is pretty poor and you can only just hear Michael playing Wipeout.
Maybe it would be easier to use the guitar as a paddle, but we can’t really see guitar SUPping catching on, although we always enjoy seeing unusual clips of Paddleboarding. Have you seen any other videos of musical instruments being played while wave riding and what do you make of Michael’s unusual video?
