By now there can’t be many people out there who haven’t heard about Mick Fanning and his shark encounter at the J Bay Open in July, the clip went viral and was watched in fascination around the world. There was however a shark attack earlier in the month, that didn’t receive anywhere near the same amount of coverage but resulted in Bodyboarder Matt Lee sustaining life changing serious injuries to both legs and left him in a medically induced coma. It has now been revealed that Mick Fanning, on hearing of Matt’s injuries has donated a $75000 TV appearance fee, to help the Bodyboarder with his ongoing recovery.
Mick donated the money from an appearance he made on 60 Minutes Tonight, where he revealed he is seeking counselling to help overcome his own shark encounter and how he is struggling to deal with his brush with the shark. As well as Mick’s donation, the boss of Channel Nine, David Gyngell has also contributed $25000 to help Matt Lee, who still remains in hospital.
Full details on this story and how Mick is suffering nightmares since the attack in South Africa can be seen at The Courier Mail website, where you will also be able to check out a sneak peak of the 60 Minute Tonight interview with Mick.
You will also find details on how to make your own donation to help Matt Lee and we would like to send Matt our best wishes.
