When Mick Fanning was attacked by a shark during the final of the J Bay Open earlier this year, the story quickly went global and within hours there were various memes doing the rounds and Mick soon became the best known surfer in the world. Now, just as the memory begins to fade, the event has been reimagined as a burger advert in South Africa for KFC, that plays on the events of the day and the heroics shown by Mick in fighting off the shark.
Quite why the advertisers have deemed that the Fanning shark attack is what is needed to promote the new Jacked Up Double Crunch burger, (a chicken burger laden with smoking hot BBQ Dorrito chips), is a mystery but the result is an amusing clip. We are told the burger is “double crunch” and “next level awesome”, but haven’t tried one ourselves.
The advert can be seen below and we would love to hear what you think? Are KFC right to use, what at the time was a pretty traumatic experience for Mick Fanning or are they just jumping on the bandwagon to sell a few burgers?
