At 50 years old Mike Stewart is showing no signs of stopping or slowing down, as yesterday he claimed yet another title at the iconic break of Pipeline. This time round he has taken 1st place at The North Shore Lifeguards Pipeline Bodysurfing Experience 2014 and gets another trophy for the collection as well as the $300 prize money.
Mike and the other competitors battled it out in pretty windy cross shore conditions, with MS finishing just 5.6 points clear of fellow Bodysurfing legend, Mark Cunningham. We have managed to track down a video of some of the action from the event and it features Mike clearly showing why he deserved the win.
Decked out in his trunks and with his trusty Vipers, it is hard to believe that he doesn’t have a board locked in underneath him. Slotting in the pocket and getting barrelled or pulling off a couple of magnificent flips, Mike certainly makes it look easy and it is hard to comprehend riding waves of that size and magnitude without a board! Take a look at the clip embedded below and enjoy wave riding in its purest form. Congratulations go to Mike from all of the Surf-Report team.
