A date you should all have in your diaries is the 4th of September 2015, when the National Watersports Festival gets underway at Hayling Island, Hampshire. The NWF prides itself in being inclusive to all ages and abilities and features the sports of kayaking, windsurfing, paddleboarding and kitesurfing. Stand Up Paddleboard fans will be pleased to hear that the National Watersport Festival have now revealed an action packed SUP programme and there is the opportunity for everyone to get involved.
Building on the success of previous years and events such as the 5km long distance endurance race and the Battle of The Paddle, the 2015 SUP programme has lots of new fun events that are open to teams and individuals. The XL Challenge is sure to prove popular, with teams of 8 piling onto giant Fanatic boards and racing around the course -without losing anyone!
Other events include a Sprint Race (an all out bat out of hell mad dash to the line), the Knock Out Relay (involving teams of 6, over a short out and back course, passing a bean bag between team mates) and the Starboard sponsored SUP polo. If you are looking for a real test, you may well enjoy Survivor, which is a race around a triangular course over 3 minutes with the last two paddlers being eliminated. As soon as the 3 minutes is up the race starts again, so the quicker you get round each time, the longer you get to regroup and rest!
There really is something for everyone and you are invited to get involved in each event, either individually or as groups. As well as the opportunity to participate, you can obviously spectate and make the most of the onsite clinics hosted by some of the best UK pro’s, as well as mooching around the many trade stands. For full details on the National Watersport Festival head over to the official website, where you can book your tickets, check out all the events and sign up to receive all the latest NWF news.
The dates for the 2015 NWF are 4th-6th of September and booking is now open for camping, event enrolment and party entry, with discounts offered for early booking.
