There is nothing worse than putting on a cold wet wetsuit, especially in the depths of an English winter, it’s almost enough to put you off a dawn patrol check! Well, a new idea on Kickstarter called the Surf Bucket now alleviates the need to ever put on a cold wetsuit ever again.
The Surf Bucket has been designed Michael Yungman, a surfer from San Diego, and is a simple device that will warm your wetsuit for you on the way to the surf. The Surf Bucket not only warms your wetsuit on the way to the beach, but because of the construction and the neoprene thermal outer jacket, it also keeps the water warm whilst you surf, allowing you to rinse off with warm water after your session.
No matter if you are into Surfing, Paddleboarding, Bodyboarding, diving or open water swimming, in fact anyone who wears a wetsuit, the Surf Bucket will enhance your experience. To use the Surf Bucket, you simply fill with a gallon of hot water from your tap at home and add your wetsuit. The heating process begins immediately, heated from a centre cone, and with a carrying handle the Surf Bucket is easily transported and there is even a top compartment to store wax.
In the past we have seen people using cool boxes as a means of trying to keep the wetsuit warm, but the temperature isn’t maintained and then a month later you may be using the cooler for a family picnic! The only potential problem we can see, especially for UK surfers is that it may be a squeeze to pack a 5 or 6mm wetsuit, hood, boots and gloves into the Surf Bucket, but even getting your wetsuit warm is going to be better than nothing.
Michael is seeking a total of $14000 to get the project off the ground and at this current time with 22 days remaining, has the backing of 36 people with a pledged amount of just over $2000. You can get involved by pledging anything from $1 to receive recognition on the founder wall through to $300 that will sponsor a 4 hour beach clean at Pacific Beach. You can get your hands on one of the first Surf Buckets by making a pledge of just $35.
