Blending the three sports of SUP, acrobatics and yoga, the sport of SUP Acro Yoga is a new one on me, but certainly looks like a lot of fun, if not extremely hard to master. The video featured below from Heavner Canoe and Kayak Rental and Detroit City SUP, shows just how graceful yet explosive the sport is when carried out by masters like Jim Gilligan and Sue Booth. The short film shows the pair demonstrating SUP Acro Yoga at Kent Lake Beach in Brighton Michigan.
Whilst definitely not a sport to just get out and give a go, with guidance and training on dry land first, you will soon be able to venture out onto the water and start basic poses. The sport commands a great deal of concentration, balance and trust between partners, but luckily the landing into the water is pretty forgiving! When you see Jim and Sue at work it is hard not to be impressed by the strength, balance and complexity of the moves they are performing.
