Ivan Moreira is a guy who loves nothing more than paddleboarding with his dog Bono, so much so that the unlikely duo have recently set a new SUP Guinness World record in Brazil. Ivan and Bono took on the tidal bore on the Mearim River and are now the official world record holders for the ‘Longest Stand Up Paddleboard Ride on a River Bore By a Human/Dog Pair’. Not a title that trips off the tongue!
5 year old Bono has been enjoying the sport of paddleboarding since he was just a young pup and started heading out with Ivan on his SUP when he was only 6 months old. Ivan and Bono managed to ride the Mearim bore for an impressive 1690 metres, (which works out at just over a mile) and are no strangers to grabbing headlines as they have previously won the Tandem event at the Surf Dog Competition in Huntington California.
The pair are the first holders of this world record and as surfing dogs are as rare as decent bore waves, there is every chance it will be a record they will hold for some time! You can see Bono and Ivan in action during their world record attempt in the video below. Do you take your dog out on your SUP and are you impressed with the balance skills and understanding between Ivan and Bono?
