Winter Storm Juno, brought chaos to the eastern side of American, leading to a curfew in New York City and a dumping of three foot of snow to New England. The snow, driven on by 70mph winds, caused blizzard conditions that were reported around the globe and left many locals holed up in the warm, enjoying the safety and shelter of their own homes. For some though, Winter Storm Juno, served up some epic conditions for a surf and a few brave souls ventured out to snag a few empty waves to themselves.
A video has emerged of this icy session that went down in Montauk, New York and despite the arctic conditions, the waves looked pretty perfect and what followed was a session these boys will never forget. There may be a few of you who feel these surfers were possibly reckless or completely mad to head out in those conditions, but it is something I can completely relate too. I come from a place that doesn’t get regularly good surf, so we make the most of every available chance to get wet – no matter what the conditions.
It’s not just the fact the lads are surfing in the snow that makes this worth watching, the opening minute of the clip really builds along with the storm and the editing, filming and music are first class. The grainy, grey footage shot through the snow, really brings the feeling of cold into the room with you. The video, that can be found below, has been shared on Vimeo by Tauk Is Cheap Productions.
Grab a toddy and a hot water bottle and enjoy “Juno” below and let us know if you have ever surfed in similar conditions or are you strictly a warm weather surfer? Have you ever been barrelled in a blizzard?
