Knowing what to do with your van or car key whilst surfing has always been an issue, but back in 2004 Northcore released the Keypod, a portable key safe, which immediately removed the need to hide keys under a rock/vehicle or take a chance with it stuffed inside your wetsuit. The Keypod was an instant success which has protected the keys of thousands of surfers over the years, but it has now undergone a makeover and Northcore have now released the 5th generation Keypod – the 5Gs.
The 5Gs works in exactly the same way as previous designs, and after placing your key in the safe you simply anchor it by closing the lid and shackle and scrambling the combination lock. The Keypod 5Gs is secured with a 10mm shackle and features a tougher braced lid which pivots from the base as well as a thicker alloy body, a dual locking lid and a stronger spring mechanism. As well as being large enough to hide away all known electronic car keys, the 5Gs can also be used to secure house keys, some mobile phones, credit cards and coins.
The 5Gs Keypod is available directly from Northcore as well as all good surf shops and has a recommended retail price of £24.99 – a small price to pay to surf secure in the knowledge your prized wheels are safe and sound. Let us know if you have used and are a fan of Northcore Keypods. I’m just not sure about attaching it to my van door handle though!
