Some of our landlocked followers or Surfers that are suffering a wave drought may be interested to hear about a new electric skateboard that replicates Surfing on land and is now available on pre-order. The Onewheel is an ingenious one wheeled skateboard that is the brainchild of inventor Kyle Doerksen and is the nearest thing you can get to surfing or snowboarding when the conditions don’t allow.
Future Motion is the company bringing the Onewheel to market and the futuristic skateboard has reached the production stage thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign. Actually, successful doesn’t really sum it up, the Onewheel smashed all expectations and reached over six times the $100 000 pledge goal!
The simplicity of the Onewheel has to be its main appeal, much like a Segway, the riding of the Onewheel is intuitive and involves simply leaning forward to drive and leaning back to slow and stop. The single wheel design allows extremely tight turning and replicates the carving motion of a snowboard or surfboard perfectly.
With a range of between 4 and 6 miles, the 25 lb Onewheel that can reach a top speed of 12mph packs a lot of punch. The standard battery takes 2 hours to charge but there is the option of upgrading to the ultra charger, and this will allow a full charge in just 20 minutes.
To find out more about this fantastic new invention and to get your pre-order in, head over to the official Onewheel site. The Onewheel is available to pre-order for $1500 plus shipping and handling costs, not cheap, but how cool would it be to be the first one round your way carving up the sidewalk or boardwalk on the Onewheel?
A couple of the official Onewheel videos have been embedded below this article, where you will be able to see it in action and be able to appreciate the simplicity and cleverness of the board. Let us know if you were one of the Kickstarter backers and if you think the Onewheel be something we will be seeing a lot more of?
