With the UK now on countdown for the opening of the Surf Snowdonia Wavegarden, surfers in Austin Texas are celebrating after plans have been revealed for a Wavegarden surf park in their own backyard. The inland lagoon is being backed by Doug Coors who is a member of the Coors brewing family and the Lone Star State is expected to see their own surf park open in 2016.
The planned Texan Wavegarden is hoped to be built within spitting distance of the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and further announcements will be made at a press conference on Thursday. The NLand surf park will be slightly bigger than it’s UK relative, offering rides of up to 18 seconds, with two rideable peaks that reel off a wave that can reach around head height and will be open to all levels of surfers.
