The highly anticipated remake of Point Break is set for its UK release on February 5th and to get you in the mood we have a trailer of the some of the surfing scenes for you to enjoy. It is nearly a quarter of a century since the original Point Break movie, starring Keanu Reeves and Gary Busey hit our screens, and it is fair to say the surfing scenes have certainly moved with the times.
To date the movie has already taken over $100 million at the box office, but has been met with mixed reviews, and at time of writing scores an average 5.5/10 on IMDB. The main gripe seems to be the film is loaded with action but is lacking on substance. We are keeping an open mind and are looking forward to seeing Utah and Bodhi back on screen after all these years.
The main surfing scenes were filmed at Teahupoo, with the help of Makua Rothman, Billy Kemper, Ian Walsh and Laird Hamilton, who also appears in the film throwing a tow rope out to Utah. The surfing is certainly of a high calibre and in the trailer below you can see Bodhi and Utah sharing a wave at Chopes, and during filming the surfer Laurie Towner who was the stunt double for Utah actually suffered a broken jaw after wiping out at Teahupoo.
We are remaining unbiased and are looking forward to seeing the surfing scenes on the big screen along with other high adrenaline sports including wingsuit flying and snowboarding, although after seeing a snippet of Ray Winstone in action as Angelo Pappas it is hard not to wish that the crew didn’t recast Gary Busey for the role! Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think, are you frothing to see the remade Point Break?
