If you are lucky enough to be on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, during May then you could be privy to a truly spectacular Bodyboard event. The Pounders Roundup 2014 competition is due to be held as soon as conditions are right on either the 4th, 17th or 31st of May, at Pounders, Laie Beach.
The event has drawn some major sponsors including The No.6, Science and Spy Optic, with prizes on offer from Toobs Bodyboards and Custom X. There are five sections to the competition – a youth category, a section for juniors, the open division, dropknee and a female section. You can expect to see some intense riding going down in some whomping beachbreak. With no wave lasting more than a few seconds the riders have to get their moves in quick and you can be assured of some pretty heavy and severe wipeouts.
The Roundup organisers have also planned a beach cleanup for Saturday 10th of May, where you will have the chance to mingle with some of the riders and help make a difference to the local area. To get an idea of the type of waves and the insane calibre of riding you can expect to see, then check out the official Pounders Roundup teaser video below. This event has to be one of the highlights on the Bodyboard calendar and a must not miss occasion if you are in the area.
