As regular water users, we are all placing ourselves at the risk of getting Surfers Ear caused by the long time exposure to the ocean and the elements. However, this nasty condition is completely avoidable, simply by using and wearing ear plugs whenever you take to the sea. There are dozens of earplugs out there on the market all offering something different, but today we are looking at Surfplugs, ear protection that is made for Surfers by Surfers.
The company has this week passed to new ownership and is now owned by Soundguard Acoustics Ltd and although there has been a slight increase in price, the day-to-day running of the company remains unchanged.
If you are not familiar with Surfplugs, they are custom made from an impression template of your own ears, that is cast by a local Audiologist. Once you have your own unique template, print off the online order form and send the impressions away for manufacture. You can choose from Surfplug’s own colours and patterns or even supply your own image or design to be set on the plugs.
An impression cast by an Audiologist will cost around £30 and the Surfplugs will set you back a further £79.99 and for this you will receive your Surfplugs (in up to 3 colours), a safety leash and safety pouch for storage. There are certainly generic earplugs a lot cheaper on the market but none of these will ever fit every ear perfectly and you do not have the option of adding your own stamp to them.
For further information or to order Surfplugs take a look at their official page here, and for anyone attending the Brighton Paddle Round The Pier event over the weekend of July 5th and 6th, Surfplugs will be in attendance and are offering FREE Surfer’s Ear checks at their Surfers Ear Clinic at stand 22. Let us know if you are already using Surfplugs and of your experience with them.
