With the WSL Quiksilver Pro back underway at Snapper Rocks on the Gold Coast, you may be forgiven for thinking the pro surfers have spent the last week lounging around, getting massages and waxing their boards. As it turns out they have been making the most of the small swell that has been on offer and as the video below show, they have been having a blast and milking it for all it was worth.
In fact, while we have been lead to believe that the waves were tiny and worthless, it turns out they have been just like a good day at my local beach! The pros have been able to generate speed, punt airs and gouge chunks out of the waves and have been having a blast during their free surf sessions this week. The clip includes rides from Kelly Slater, Dane Reynolds, Gabriel Medina and John John Florence and comes courtesy of MySurf.tv
After seeing this video of the free surf and the waves that have been lapping at the Gold Coast, it is a wonder the WSL have added the two day extension to the Quiksilver Pro and why they didn’t run the comp and make the pros battle it out on waves like the rest of us regularly enjoy? We would love to hear what you think, should the Pros be made to surf on anything that is there during the waiting period or were the WSL right in extending the comp and waiting for better waves?
