You may not of ever heard of it, but the PIC Saipan International Point Break Competition is a Flowboard/Bodyboard event that has been running for the past 17 years, and has been won this year by the extraordinary Ray Babauta. The event takes place each year in the Northern Mariana Islands, and attracts competitors from Japan, Russia, Korea and the USA.
Ray has obviously put in a lot of hours on the Flowrider and is able to run off tricks that you would not believe possible, including drop knee shove-its, drop knee El Rollos, Rodeos, back spins and what looks like breakdance style windmills! The event follows a simple format; basically the competitors get 45 seconds to impress the judges. Not only did Ray win the Bodyboard event, he also placed 2nd in the Men’s Pro Flowboard too, all in all a good weekends work!
Other results included Kim Jae Won and Francis Heartman, who finished second and third in the Bodyboard category, whilst it was Keoni Ichihara who won the Pro Flowboard with Dan Westfall securing 3rd place. The video of Ray Babauta laying down his amazing run of tricks can be seen below. What do you make of Ray’s astonishing array of tricks?
