Whenever Red Bull get behind a sport, they always seem to help push it that little bit beyond what most people would deem as sane. Take for example the Red Bull Storm Chase Windsurf event that went down in 30+ foot storm conditions in Cornwall last Month, or think back to Felix Baumgartner Skydiving from the edge of space, even the Red Bull Soapbox Derby features death defying jumps for the carts to tackle! Imagine what is going to happen now that Red Bull have embraced Big Wave Surfing and announced the Cape Fear event that is going to be held at the eerie spot known as Ours at Cape Solander near Sydney.
The event has been called on as soon as a massive swell hits, anytime from April to August and will feature some of the world’s finest and bravest big wave surfers. You can expect to see the likes of Jamie O’Brien, Bruce Irons, Shane Dorian and Makua Rothman going up against each other in one on one battles where they will be expected to paddle and tow into the monster waves in turn.
You can expect to see 10-foot waves that will be racing out of the deep pacific to crash onto the razor sharp slab that makes Ours such a menacing break and quite rightly one of the most feared waves on the planet. The best bit of all is that the competition will be broadcast live for the world to watch and you can be assured it will be heart stopping.
