There’s no denying that Inflatable Stand Up Paddleboards serve a purpose and have a place in todays market, but lets face it, no matter how hard you pump them up they can never fully replicate a standard SUP and a small amount of flex is always noticeable. Well now the boffins over at Red Paddle Co have developed the Rocker Stiffening System (RSS) and inflatable SUP design has changed forever.
The RSS is a simple idea but is a game changer and will alter the inflatable SUP experience from here on in. The Rocker Stiffening System is simply a pair of rigid battens that are inserted into side pockets on the Paddleboard and work very much like a stringer on a Surfboard would. The battens can be rolled and stored with the Inflatable SUP between sessions and then simply slid back into the pockets for the next paddle.
The battens dramatically alter the boards rigidity and the Red Paddle Co tell us that they are now increasing the stiffness of some boards by up to 50% meaning that heavier paddlers can now choose a smaller board. It also allows Red Paddle Co to now offer 4″ thick boards that have the same stiffness as competitors 6″ boards.
It’s not just us here at Surf Report who think they are onto a winner with this idea, Red Paddle Co have just been awarded the 2014 Coolest Gear of The Show at the PaddleExpo in Germany, in the SUP category. Find out more about the Red Paddle Co RSS here and let us know if you have experienced flex in your Inflatable SUP and will you be looking forward to trying the Red Paddle Co Rocker Stiffening System?
