Travelling with a surfboard can sometimes be a royal pain in the backside, especially lugging it through customs, the excess baggage charges and the risk of the baggage handlers disrespecting your prized board. Imagine if you could make arrangements to collect and use a quality surfboard at your destination from a fellow passionate surfer. Well now you can courtesy of a new board rental scheme called The Quiver.
The business has been started to enable passionate surfers to be able to rent a decent board that is the right size and shape anywhere they travel and also gives you the chance to make some money by offering some of your own quiver up for rental. The idea behind the scheme is pretty simple, a surfer lists their board on The Quiver website for a price they want for a days hire, a travelling surfer can search for the board they would like to use and a mutual agreement is struck to hire the board out. There is also the option to rent Stand Up Paddleboards, Wetsuits and accessories such as soft roof racks.
Dings are obviously a concern and do happen, but if the renting surfer adds anything more than a pressure ding to your board it is their responsibility to have it repaired. The Quiver will also step in and help in any disputes that may arise. The Quiver is a brilliant idea and as the scheme grows it should help Surfers all over the world to snag a wave wherever and whenever they travel. It also eliminates the need to rent a floppy, creased and battered pop out board from a local surf shop.
More details on The Quiver and how to sign up to either rent out a board or see if there are any available at your next destination can be seen at the official site here. What do you think of this idea? Do you have a board you would like to make a quid or two out of, or is there no way you would lend a board to a stranger? Do you like the idea of renting a decent board without the hassle of lugging your own board halfway round the world?
