We are all for environmentally sound surf products and it is the responsibility of all of us to look towards using equipment that is as sustainable as it can be. Just days ago we reported about the Surfers Against Sewage #BenWoodGo project, using a handmade cedar surfboard and today we report on a sustainable and environment friendly leash. The Eco Leash has been made by Kun_Tiqi, a company that specialises in eco friendly and environmentally sound balsa surfboards, and the Eco Leash has been developed in conjunction with Surfrider Foundation.
The urethane cord of the leash is made from recycled materials and the rail saver and cuff have been created using recycled neoprene and nylon, which immediately improves the carbon footprint of the leash. Not only is the Eco Leash made using recycled materials, the leash is also easily fixable and all the parts can be swapped and replaced, simply by using a standard fin key.
This means that you no longer have to discard the whole leash should one part wear out or break and we consider this to be the best feature of the Eco Leash. The range of leashes are available for between €26 – €35, and a new cord costs just €9.50, all parts come with a one year guarantee. For every Eco Leash sold, a donation will be made to the Surfrider Foundation to help protect our our oceans and coasts.
To see more about Kun_Tiqi, their philosophy and their work take a look at their website here, and to buy an Eco Leash head over to the EcoSurfShop. Are any of you already using an Eco Leash yet and what do you think of the worlds first repairable and sustainable leash?
