In what has been an event with more impetus than we saw at Quiksilver Pro at Snapper Rocks, the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach has continued to run in less than perfect conditions and the quarterfinalists have been decided. Although some big names are noticeable in their absence, the last rounds of the Rip Curl Pro will certainly see some epic battles and Mick Fanning is still in the running to defend his 2014 title.
Whilst some will say the event should be put on hold and the organisers should wait for better conditions, many will appreciate the efforts of Contest Commissioner Kirran Perrow and the call he has made to send the Pros out in the messy surf. The previous event on the Gold Coast almost seemed like two events with the big gap it had halfway through.
The Rip Curl Pro is currently on hold until 10pm (BST) today but we will be hoping to see the event keep moving and get underway with Adriano de Souza and Gabriel Medina kicking off the quarters in Heat 1. Heat 2 sees Owen Wright and Josh Kerr lock horns, whilst Jordy Smith and Mick Fanning will battle it out in Heat 3. Closing the quarterfinals will be Filipe Toledo vs Nat Young and we think there are four pretty interesting heats ahead, and can’t wait to see the semis and final unfold.
You will be able to watch all the action unfold live from Bells Beach here and we would be interested to hear your thoughts on whether the event should run in any conditions or should the organisers wait for perfect conditions and even extend the waiting period as at Snapper Rocks? Who do you think will be crowned the champion of Bells for 2015?
