The Rip Curl Search GPS watch has now been available for eight months and it has certainly been a useful tool for recording sessions for thousands of surfers spread all around the globe. Rip Curl have now released some intriguing statistics from the SearchGPS Community, recorded over these first few months, detailing just who and where has enjoyed the most waves.
In total, the 17,408 SearchGPS Community members have actually surfed 1,627,525 waves between them and have enjoyed a total of 146,940 surf sessions! It turns out that surfers in South Africa top the list of waves per session with an average of 15.27, but it is the Aussies who have scored the most waves, bagging an impressive 464,571 between them.
Around the world the guys have scored far more waves than the girls, but on average the ‘per session’ wave count is pretty evenly matched, with Brazilian girls actually scoring more waves in a session than their male counterparts. Unfortunately the UK SearchGPS Community didn’t make it onto the list!
