As anticipation for the Rip Curl Search GPS Watch reaches near fever pitch, further details have been released and it seems that Team Rip Curl have been having a lot of fun during the recent Hurley Pro at Trestles. Team Rip Curl have used the Search GPS to detail their free surfs and add a bit of friendly rivalry into the sessions. The first ever SearchGPS club challenge was held and details of the Pro Surfers expression sessions make interesting reading.
The Team Riders to put the watch through its paces this week included Mick Fanning, Gabriel Medina, Nikki Van Dijk, Tyler and Owen Wright and the data collected reveals some interesting statistics. Nikki takes the win for mosts surfs and clocked up a total ride distance of 25.3km, whilst Owen Wright snagged the longest ride with a leg shaking 211 metre ride.
Gabriel Medina took the prize for the most waves bagging himself a total of 67, while we see that Owen managed to get the most rides in a single session. There is also data for the fastest speed on a wave with Gabriel hitting 33.2km/hr whilst Mick Fanning was hot on his heels, travelling at 31km/hr.
Can you imagine how competitive these Pros must have been as the data was studied after the surfs and how I would love to have been a fly on the wall as they crowded round and studied the stats!
