Robbie Maddison is a stuntman and extreme motorbike rider with a penchant for danger and who has incredibly, ridden Teahupoo on his motorbike. The project has been three years in the planning and Robbie, who is a sponsored rider for DC shoes has had to undergo specialist training and modify his Honda CR 500 to be able to conquer the huge waves in Tahiti.
We thought it was impressive enough when Chuck Paterson went out and ski surfed at Jaws but Robbie Madison has taken wave riding on unusual equipment to the next level. The chance of a heavy wipeout at Chopes is bad enough just riding a surfboard, let alone adding the risk of being pinned down by a motorbike or running the risk of face planting over the handlebars and concussing yourself before being sucked over the falls!
Robbie has released a video of his Teahupoo exploits called ‘Pipe Dream’, which can be seen below, and shows him tearing up the waters of Tahiti as he screams across the ocean on his modified bike. With the massive paddle tyres Robbie is able to drive himself across the surface of the sea and straight into the wave. Whilst immensely impressive, the site of Robbie haring towards the lineup must be heart breaking and you wouldn’t get many waves with a motorbike out the back, picking off all the sets! Would you fancy a crack at Teahupoo on a motorbike?
