Sally Fitzgibbons has taken the win at the Fiji Women’s Pro, making it back to back victories at Cloudbreak and made even more impressive, seeing as she has been competing with a perforated eardrum. With her Rambo like headband on, which was in place to protect her ear, Sally dominated the final against Bianca Buitendag, with two near perfect ride scores.
Sally ruptured her eardrum in Round 2, but doggedly fought on taking out the likes of Lakey Peterson and Laura Enever on the way to the final. The win sees Sally elevated to third spot on the tour rankings, and just 8000 points behind tour leader Carissa Moore who finished 9th in Tavarua.
As well as Sally’s perforated eardrum, the Fiji event has been hampered by a run of competitors who have also suffered injuries and has seen John John Florence, Stephanie Gilmore, Michel Bourez, Brett Simpson and now Jordy Smith all withdraw from competing in Fiji.
Congratulations have to go to Sally for her gutsy performance and for making it two years running at Cloudbreak, and now all eyes turn to the Men’s Fiji Pro which gets underway between the 7th and 19th of June. Let us know if you have ever suffered a perforated eardrum surfing and with the amount of injuries do you think the 2015 World Tour is anyone’s for the taking?
