Many a time I’ve been heading down the M4, surfboards on the roof and been driven to near distraction by the annoying relentless hum from the board straps just inches above my head. Ideally the boards could be slung in the car, but then you run the risk of blocking your vision or in the event of harsh braking or an accident you have a potential missile sitting alongside you. SeatRack is a new interior cargo rack that cleverly fits to your seats using the existing headrest holes and enables you to carry your surfboard safely and securely within your vehicle.
The SeatRack securing poles are fully adjustable and fit most vehicles with removable headrest and can be used for carrying a wide range of gear including surfboards, snowboards, fishing rods, ladders, timber and pipes. SeatRack can be fitted and removed in just a few seconds and retails at $129.95.
The SeatRack has many positives including offering extra security to your gear, reduced fuel consumption, removes that annoying rack hum from traditional racks and protects your boards and car from each other. However, there are a few limitations I can see. You will not be able to carry a board any longer than the interior of your vehicle, you cannot carry passengers when the rack is fitted and the racks would be another thing cluttering up the car when not in use.
But, if all you have to worry about is your surfboard and your next wave, then the SeatRack is for you and will likely be the best bit of surf kit you will buy all year.
