A shocking video has emerged this week of an episode of Surf localism, all over a pretty innocuous drop in by a Longboarder on a guy riding his Paddleboard. When you see the Paddleboarder involved it will quickly dispel any stereotypical ideas you may have about a testosterone fuelled blonde haired meathead and show you that localism and surf rage can be displayed by all sorts.
We have embedded the two videos below so you can see for yourselves exactly what lead to the foul mouthed incident and then the confrontation itself. Admittedly every story has two sides and we only get to see the incident from the Longboarder”s perspective, but the beach certainly doesn’t looked packed and there was no real danger to anyone on this occasion. In fact it looked like an ideal session with only a few out and some lovely little waves rolling through.
In the first video the Longboarder paddles for the wave and a way back in the distance you can see the guy on his SUP patrolling the break and gently stroking his way onto the wave. The Longboarder leaps up and begins cruising his way towards the shore, all the time being followed along the wave by the Paddleboarder. There doesn’t appear to be any shouting or warnings and the two of them ride in what seems like harmony until they both come off some way inside.
The second clip then shows the aggressive SUP rider paddle up to the Surfer and ram his SUP into the Longboarder’s stick! What follows is a interesting exchange of words with the Paddleboarder becoming more obnoxious and potty mouthed, until he insults the Surfer and tells him to go back to England, even though the Longboarder says he’s Cornish and they are in Cornwall anyway? It is certainly a very intense and over the top tirade by the older Paddleboarder.
OK, so the Surfer was technically in the wrong and dropped in on the Paddleboarder, but was there any real harm done? One thing is certain, it has definitely caused a lot of commotion on various internet forums and there are a lot of comments below the Youtube post, with the majority of people feeling as though the older guy behaved despicably and embarrassed himself. Full credit to the younger Surfer, who kept his cool and apologised on many occasions for his error, and he has more than got his own back by publishing the clips. Take a look at the two videos below and then let us know how you feel about them. Do you think the Paddleboarder was in the right to confront the Surfer in the manner that he did, and if you were the Surfer would you have put up with the aggressive and threatening behaviour so calmly?
