Back in March we reported on an ingenious and revolutionary new type of Paddleboard, the SipaBoard. The SipaBoard is not only self-inflating, but also has an inbuilt self propelling jet propulsion engine, which is controlled wirelessly from your paddle. The SipaBoard is now coming to market and a Kickstarter campaign has been launched to take the boards to a full-scale market launch this year.
The self inflating part of the SipaBoard is in itself ingenious and labour and time saving, but for me it is the Jet Engine that really impresses and it is the propulsion unit that will make Paddleboarding so much more accessible for so many people. It will dramatically help children to get into the sport and allow them the confidence to go on longer trips, it will help no end when paddling against currents or upstream, and will be available to help when your own muscles begin to flag.
There are so many intriguing facts about the SipaBoard and I am unable to feature them all but will list a few. The SipaDrive Engine is near silent and emission free and on a full charge will provide a 3-hour cruising speed of 2 knots for an average sized male paddleboarder. The simple wireless controls are built into the paddle handle and should you fall in, the motor will automatically shut off. The Jet Engine is fitted with a mesh that not only protects injury to yourself and marine life, but also wards against damage to the propeller.
The team behind SipaBoard have launched a Kickstarter campaign to allow them to take the SipaBoard to full scale production and are seeking funding of $150 000 and within the first 24 hours have raised nearly $30 000 through 48 backers. Fifteen early birds have already snapped up the first run of SipaBoards at a vastly discounted rate but there are still plenty of opportunities to get involved and you can still make some huge savings on a SipaBoard. For a pledge of $1190 you can get your hands on the full SipaBoard package, saving yourself a thousand dollars on the retail price.
To find out all about this exciting new Kickstarter campaign and the revolutionary new SipaBoard head over to the official Kickstarter page here, where you will not only be able to make a pledge but can see a couple of videos of the boards in action and find out about the SipaBoard Development. The work that has been put in by the team is astonishing and they have brought a product to market that has the ability to change Paddleboarding forever. There are also a series of demo days around the globe and you can find out all about them at the SipaBoard Facebook page.
Let us know what you think about the SipaBoard and if you manage to get to one of the demonstrations and get to try one out for yourself we would love to hear your experiences. Good luck to the SipaBoard Team.
