Just 2 months since we witnessed Gabriel Medina take the 2014 ASP World Title and Julian Wilson bagged himself the Pipemaster Trophy, we can now all start to look forward to the launch of the 2015 Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour. The World Surf League’s inaugural year gets underway with the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast event, kicking off on the 28th of February.
Most would agree that the sponsorship from Samsung last year was a definitive positive for the sport and the live webcasts from 2014 were first class and a delight to watch. Quite what the name change from the ASP to the WSL will bring, no one really knows, but the Quiksilver Pro is always a fantastic event to watch and Snapper Rocks is as good a place as any to kick off the World Tour and this will be the 14th straight year the tour has started here.
The Australians have dominated the competition over the years, with Gabriel Medina and Kelly Slater the only non Aussies to have won at Snapper. Local lads, Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson will be keen to delight the home crowds but you can be sure that last years winner of the event, Mr Medina will be putting up a hell of a fight.
The waiting period for the 2015 Gold Coast Quiksilver Pro is between the 28th of Feb until the 11th of March and you will be able to follow all the action as it unfolds over at the official WSL website. With just a couple of weeks left until the 2015 Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour gets underway we would love to hear your predictions for the Quiksilver Pro and who will take the overall title and are you excited to see the tour get underway again? To get you amped for the start of the Quiksilver Pro we have included the highlight video from last years exciting event below.
