Ever since I was a kid, if we ever received a dumping of snow we always cracked out the tea tray, but once I started to Bodyboard, it was always my trusted sponge that I took to sliding down hills on. I’ve always thought that the Bodyboard could somehow be tweaked to cut into the snow a bit better and finally my dreams have been realised.
A company called Snoogee Sleds, run by two brothers Ben and Mick Bateman, have designed the Snoogee Sled or AXS to take sledging into the future by cleverly designing a Bodyboard that sits above a small snowboard. The result is a sled that is extremely manoeuvrable and allows the rider to complete drawn out carves and even performing Bodyboard style tricks.
The company have now built a prototype and we expect to see a Kickstarter campaign launched any day now to raise the funds to bring this idea to fruition. I for one will be looking to back the project and hope that one day the Snoogee Sled will be seen on slopes all over the world. I think these guys are only just at the tip of the iceberg and can see a future of Snoogee models with suspension and a catalog of tricks, and the sport progressing much as Bodyboarding has over the years.
To find out how the Snoogee Sled came to be and for more information on the AXS, take a look at the Snoogee Sled website here. We have also embedded a couple of videos of the AXS in action drawing some carves, busting some airs and hitting up some rails! These things are fast and the riders take some pretty heavy landings, so well worth a look! Let us know if you’ve ever taken your Bodyboard out into the snow and are you intrigued and fired up by the idea of the Snoogee Sled?
