The art of Stand Up Paddle Surfing is extremely hard to master, not just paddling around in the flats, I mean serious wave riding and performing high end tricks on waves. So when a mere whipper snapper comes along and makes it look so easy it leaves you feeling a little inadequate! The young talent I am talking about is a 20 year old by the name of Zane Schweitzer, who rides for Starboard and has done since the age of 11!
Zane is one of those people who can turn his hand to riding anything in the water and his own website (although a while since updated) details his accomplishments at Windsurfing, Surfing, Moto Cross and the SUP. The site also reveals that Zane is from good stock, as his Grandfather invented the sport of Windsurfing and his Mum and Dad are both champion riders!
I have embedded a video below from about a year ago that shows Zane out on his signature Starboard, a 7’4″ and boy does he make it look easy! OK, he is on a SUP that isn’t much bigger than a lot of surfboards, but he throws it around as though he is on a skateboard! The clip is worth watching if only to see Zane back flipping as he paddles over the top of an incoming wave, performing shove its or showing off with headstands that he manages to get back out of and then continues riding stood up!
Definitely a lad with an insane amount of talent and someone we will no doubt be featuring in the future. Enjoy the featured video below and marvel at Zane’s skills and admire the company he keeps! It is worth pointing out that the Starboard website currently shows Zane as riding a different board, the InZane 7’1″ x 24″ Pro Model, so even smaller than the one featured in this clip!
