When the swell drops out or if you live well inland there is not always the opportunity to get out on the Paddleboard and keep the fitness and skill levels up. You may have direct access to water but are keen to try something new and exciting to improve balance and fitness that will link directly back to your Paddleboarding. You may then, feel like trying Street SUP, the on land version of Paddleboarding.
Basically the Street SUP is a massive Skateboard that the rider powers along with a big stick, this replaces the paddle that would normally be used in the wet stuff, and is quite often known as a land paddle. The wheels used tend to be big soft skateboard wheels and you would need to be hunting for some of around 78A-84A durometer.
Street Sup is a growing industry and there are a few specialist companies around now to provide you with advice and stocking the relevant products. The Street SUP is a great way to maintain core strength and work on an all round fitness, whilst cruising your local boardwalks or promenades. In fact there is no need for long clear routes, land paddling can be undertaking on any smooth car park or recreational area.
We have three videos below showing Street Sup being enjoyed by many different people and we think it is something that will continually grow, as the appeal is there for Paddleboarders, Surfers and Skateboarders alike. The last clip shows one man taking off like a bat out of hell as he starts out on a 25-mile trip! Let us know if you have tried Street Sup or if you think it is a gimmick that will not last?
