We all know the benefits Paddleboarding can have on our own physical and mental well being, but imagine if you were to combine your time out on your SUP with some other gentle fitness routine, exercises or yoga, the benefits could be tenfold. Just standing and paddling on a SUP works the core and helps improve strength so what better place to carry out a few gentle exercises or salutations. The moving board makes your muscles work that bit harder and hones your sense of balance.
We have found a couple of videos that show you some basic exercises to try next time you are out on the Paddleboard. The first features a fitness instructor named Alison Calder, who will gently take you through a few simple exercises such as the push up, torso twists and some calf rises. It is worth noting that Alison is also demonstrating her routine on a Paiwen board, who make SUP’s purely for the female market.
The second clip and a little bit more intense is Part 1 of 3 featuring Jodelle Fitzwater on her Bic SUP, who is a yoga and fitness instructor and is certain to get you sweating. The routine that Jodelle takes you through in this particular video concentrates mostly on standing exercises.
So after watching these 2 clips and next time you are out on your SUP why not give some of these exercises a try? I know I would rather be doing this on my Paddleboard than on a Yoga mat at my local gym. Let us know if you have any other good exercises you use to improve your core strength and paddling stamina?
