With the first month of the year nearly passed, it is time to take a look at the upcoming Surf contests for February 2014. We intend this to become a regular feature and we will keep you updated of all events that will feature in the Surf Calendar for 2014.
Fans of Surfing can look forward to the ASP heading to Australia where we will see the Hurley Australian Open, held at Manly Beach. The competition is scheduled between 8th-16th and will see the men battling it out for $25000 in this 6-star World Qualifying Event. Reigning female champion Carissa Moore will be competing against a strong field including the defending Open champion Sally Fitzgibbons. The junior boy and girl pros will also be competing in a 2-star event for $10000 and $4000 correspondingly.
The Bodyboarding world will turn its eyes to Hawaii for the 2014 Pipe Challenge between the 12th and 28th of February. After a tumultuous few months, the event has been put together with a lot of hard work from some of the sports most famous of names and the men will be competing for a $25000 purse. The Drop Knee riders and the women’s division will battle for $5000. We are still waiting to hear if this event will be streamed live
Paddleboard fans have a busy month ahead, the 8th of February brings the 2014 Sunset Beach Pro where the men will compete and the girls will go head to head at Turtle Bay for the Women’s Pro. This is a wave riding competition. For casual paddlers, they might like to head to The Mornington Peninsula, Victoria (9th Feb) for the 3.6km paddle from Sorrento Pier to Portsea. This is an ideal paddle for families and hobby paddlers to enjoy. For the racers, the 22nd of February brings the Great Eastern Beach Paddle in Victoria, Australia. As well as the 6km race there will be demonstrations and sponsors on site to ply you with their wares.
Kiteboarders will be looking forward to the start of the Kiteboarding World Cup, which gets underway in Panama at the Nitro City resort. This freestyle competition boasts this month’s biggest purse with the boarders fighting it out for a $42000 prize in this inaugural event at Panama City.
