A set of interesting Surfboards have appeared on a website called designboom, that shows three new boards all taking the form of marine animals. Italian Giulio Iacchetti has designed these extremely streamlined looking boards in conjunction with Francesco Fiorentio from Surfer’s Den.
The project is known a ‘Surfph-o-Morph’ and the 3 boards are modelled on a Dolphin, Shark and a Killer Whale as they appear from above, and it has to be said they are all remarkably lifelike. In a clever nod to the perfection of evolution, the skegs of the boards also draw their inspiration from the animals own fins.
As to whether the boards Surf well remains to be seen, and as they have been released for Milan Design Week we do wonder if they have been designed more as a piece of art rather than a functioning board, but they do look incredible. One thing that does concern us though is, if you are happily paddling around on a board in the shape of the Dolphin, what is to stop you looking decidedly tasty or vulnerable to a passing Orca or Shark!
We can find no reference to price or even if these are available to the masses, but it is certainly an idea that has promise and there is no denying the boards, especially the Shark, look fintastic! (Ha Ha). Let us know what you think of these revolutionary designs, if you think they would work and if you fancy trying one?
