Details have been released of the Men’s Draw for the 2014 Bodyboard Pipe Challenge, and it has come as a bit of a surprise to see the name of Jamie O’Brien in Round 1 of the Competition. The Hawaiian Surfer from Oahu is regularly seen dominating Pipeline in the stand up position and is one of the youngest to ever win a Pipe Masters event.
Jamie is well known for his TV series “Who is JOB”, which follows Jamie’s life on the North Shore as he shreds some of the best waves going, parties, goofs about and generally has a shed load of fun.
Jamie has already proved he can pretty much ride anything and he is no stranger to competing on a Bodyboard, as he featured in the IBA Pipeline Pro in 2009 and finished third in his round.
We have embedded a video below that shows Jamie competing back in 2009 and it is clear to see, that he is pretty confident on a Bodyboard. Although he isn’t busting any big lip tricks, fair play to the guy for going against the grain and spanning multiple water sports and for giving it a go. He is still getting shacked at Pipe and we don’t think it really matters what you ride, so long as you are getting pitted.
Take a look at the clip below and let us know what you think about JOB entering competitions on a Bodyboard? The only thing we would add is that hopefully Jamie has learnt some wave etiquette since this video was filmed!
