The weekend of the 27th to the 29th of March 2015 is set to see the biggest Surfers Against Sewage Beach Clean ever, covering over 150 beaches and involving over 5000 volunteers. The Big Spring Beach Clean 2015 will see an army of passionate volunteers come together and scour and clean their local beaches in every corner the UK.
Astonishingly, it is said that around 8 million pieces of marine litter enter our oceans every single day and millions of marine birds and mammals are killed every year after ingesting or becoming entangled in this waste. According to the SAS, in some areas there is now more plastic waste in the sea than plankton, and the Big Spring Beach Clean is a chance for us all to get involved in and make a difference.
There are planned Beach Cleans in all corners of the UK but if you cannot find one at you local beach, then SAS can help you to organise and plan your own one. As well as making a huge contribution to our coastline and the marine environment, Beach Cleans are a fun way to unite communities and make new friends. If you would like to host your own local event contact Surfers Against Sewage on 01872 555956 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
The 2015 Big Spring Beach Clean is supported by Saltrock, Protec Direct, Klean Kanteen and World Animal Protection and lead volunteers can look forward to drinks sponsored by Vita Coco Coconut Water. More information on the Big Spring Beach Clean weekend can be found at the Surfers Against Sewage website, where you can also donate, join up and see other SAS campaigns.
