Threading Edges is a series currently running on Epic TV which is taking an in depth look at the world famous wave of Mullaghmore in County Sligo, Ireland. The wave exploded into the mainstream a few years ago and there have been hundreds of images and clips of the brave few tucking into cavernous barrels, but Episode 3 of Threading Edges shows us that it isn’t all plain sailing at Mullaghmore Head, as the wipeout video below shows.
With appearances from the likes of Paul O’Kane, Conor Maguire and Shambles McGoldrick, all accomplished big wave riders, the video demonstrates that Mullaghmore isn’t for the faint of heart and is anything but easy. With surfers and bodyboarders getting drilled in equal measures it is refreshing to see that the tow teams and wave riders have well rehearsed rescue plans and are advised by big wave surfer and fireman Peter Conroy.
The surfers who head out to tackle the juggernaut surf above the pitted reef at Mullaghmore know that they are putting their lives on the line, but through rigorous training, deep camaraderie and in depth knowledge they minimise the risk and impress the hell out of us mere mortals. The video showing the ugly side of Mullaghmore Head can be seen below, fancy a go?
