After getting cancelled at the 11th hour a fortnight ago, the Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau is back on again for this Thursday (25th February) as the organisers have called on a yellow alert for the second time this year. The waiting period for the Eddie Would Go closes on February 29th and if things go to plan, the event will run for only the 9th time in it’s 31 year history.
The North Shore is currently being swamped with massive surf, which has lead to the closure of beach front roads, some coastal flooding and damage to boats and houses. Forecasts show a huge swell arriving Wednesday night and peaking Thursday morning, just in time for the organisers to make the call. According to the official Quiksilver Eddie Would Go website, “The call to GO will be made at the beach Thursday morning. Not Before. If ON it will be an 8am start”.
The Eddie will be streamed live and you will be able to tune in and watch all the action from Waimea, check out our earlier article to find out how.
