There is a saying that goes “if it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it” but it’s not a phrase that the designers at Futures Fins are paying any attention too. The Californian based company are renowned for the quality fins that they have been producing since 1996 but now they have redesigned the leash plug and are promising a plug that is a lot stronger than the ones we have been using until now.
Available in 8 colours and designed to match the Futures ILT (Interwoven Laminate Technology) fin boxes meaning your board can be fully coordinated. The big difference that Futures have incorporated into their leash plugs is the flanged shoulder, that they claim has improved the plugs strength and is designed to be fitted prior to lamination.
Below this article we have attached the Futures video that shows how to install the leash plug using the Futures template and tooling. In reality these new plugs can only be aimed at the shaper who is banging out a fair few boards, as the cost of retooling and changing production methods is probably out of the question for the small time shaper.
What do you reckon? Did the leash plug need re-designing and have Futures created the perfect plug?
