In collaboration with Channel Island Surfboards and Kalani Robb, the car giant MINI have recently dipped their toes into the world of surfboard manufacture. The surfboard has been designed to work in a variety of conditions but is at its best in surf up to head high and is described by MINI as the go to groveller board your quiver is missing!
The board design features a wide squash tail with wide nose, shallow rocker and is shaped with a five fin set up, but recommended to be ridden as a quad. The MINI is available in 8 stock sizes ranging from a 5’1″ to 6’3″ and recommended to be ridden 3″-6″ shorter than your own height. There is also the option to allow you to customise your own board and for the more eco conscious surfer, the board can also be shaped as a Channel Island Ecoboard. Off the shelve prices range from $681 to $725.
Car manufacturers dabbling in surfboard manufacture is not a new thing, we all know about Mercedes crafting Nazare Slaying boards for Garret McNamara and Ferrari have previously produced a mini mal, but the MINI from Channel Island is a board for the grass root surfer. Have you seen the new MINI board yet and what are your thoughts on car manufacturers making surfboards? Do you see them as a gimmick or as serious boards, considering the design technology at their disposal?
