Learning how to Surf is technically difficult and extremely frustrating, both for the participant and for other more experienced Surfer’s out in the water. The importance of a few Surf lessons and a bit of expert guidance on technique, etiquette and equipment, goes a long way to helping the beginner learn to Surf quickly and more importantly, safely.
The next problem the budding Surf student faces, is knowing exactly where to go to be able to receive these important lessons. This is where a handy new website called The Surfing Sumo comes in. Released a few weeks ago, this site is a directory of Surf Schools around the UK, and has been designed and planned over the last year, to bring a comprehensive list of reputable Surf Schools direct to you, in your living room.
The idea behind the site is very simple, if you need Surf lessons anywhere in the country, simply type in your location, postcode or nearest beach and The Surfing Sumo will provide you with a list of schools in the nearby area. I’ve tried a few random places dotted around the UK and they seem to be able to recommend a Surf School within 60-70 miles of even the most obscure places.
OK, so now your thinking, “How do I know, that the school I am being recommended is actually any good?” – Well, this is the real genius part, people who have previously used the Surf School, have the opportunity to write reviews and rate the school with a star system, relating to the quality of the advice received and the amount of fun had.
So, If you are looking to try out Surfing for the first time, or feel you really should get some expert guidance and information to help you improve your Surfing, The Surfing Sumo is a great place to find someone who can help you learn to Surf, safely and competently. Take a look at The Surfing Sumo here, and let us know if you think this is long overdue and a helpful tool for the apprentice Surfer?
