Four friends, Trevor McDonald, Jimmy Martinello, Sean Leary and Tim Emmett made the decision they were going to carry out a base jump from the inhospitable peaks of the Vampire Spires and Cirque of the Unclimbables in Canada. The problem they had was how to get there? Somehow the group of adventurers took the decision they were going to access the region by Stand Up Paddleboard!
The video below shows the lads as they tackle the Class 3 Little Nahanni River, and the battle they endure over the 18 – 25 kilometre rapid section even after being warned they shouldn’t attempt the descent! What follows is a highly entertaining and very amusing snapshot of the pioneers journey.
The clip starts in high spirits as they prepare to take on the Nahanni and the paddle starts on a calm and serene section of the river with the boys well in control. Before long the journey descends into complete chaos and the trip can only be described as carnage! Eventually, as broken men and after 11 hours the group arrive at a heavenly camping spot to tend to their aches and pains.
This is the first of a four part documentary called RAW (Rock, Air Water) that follows the adventurers as they paddle the rest of the river, tackle the mountains and then finally make the jump. To follow these guys on their adventure that will see a bear bite a SUP, a scary plane ride and some spectacular scenery then get yourself over to Epic TV where you can watch all the episodes in this glorious series. Definitely one of the best journeys I have ever witnessed.
