Sometime in our lives, we have all seen the young kids on the beach having a go at Skimboarding in the half inch of water on the sea’s edge, it can be a bit hit and miss either digging the board in the sand and face planting over the front or leaning back and firing the board off down the beach whilst they end up crashing backwards into the beach. Occasionally you may have seen the more accomplished rider who can skim outwards into the oncoming surf and skillfully turn on the face of the wave and ride the shoulder of the wave back to shore. If like me you have tried it, you may still carry the memory of bruised ribs and a mouthful of sand.
You may then be interested to see just how Brad Domke is taking the art of Skimboarding to new levels. Remember that these boards are finless, leashless and about half the length of an average shortboard and are no thicker than your coffee table tabletop.
It’s not just the fact that Brad is taking his Skimboard out and riding some waves that are in excess of double overhead it is also the way that Brad rides with such reckless abandonment. Treating his Skimboard more like a skateboard, he pops little airs, ollies and shove-its at will and gets slotted on barrels that most of us dream of.
Without doubt one of the most impressive videos we have seen so far this year and we doff our caps to Brad’s impressive skills. Take a look at the video below and let us know what you think of this form of waveriding.
