As the anticipation for the Rip Curl Search GPS Watch builds, further details have emerged, direct from the horses mouth. Rip Curl have released an email this morning revealing that Mick Fanning, the winner of the Rip Curl Pro 2014 at Bells Beach, was wearing the Search GPS, during the competition and more importantly during the final against Taj Burrow.
The email reveals further, exactly what information can be gleaned from the Search GPS and tells us that in the final of the event, Mick travelled 3.1 kilometers, reached a top speed of 22 mph and rode a total of 5 waves. Furthermore, with one 193m wave, Mick is currently the record holder for the longest wave ridden whilst wearing the watch at his local spot, Snapper Rocks.
Unfortunately Rip Curl, don’t confirm any more information regarding release date and price but as we revealed last week, we are expecting the watch to arrive around September time at a price of £239. We are firm believers that this GPS technology is going to catch on big time and as Mick has already laid down the gauntlet for the longest ride, we look forward to trying to beat him!
