If you were to be unfortunate enough to break your arm, you would probably be looking at a good few weeks resting up and inevitably end up missing some of the best waves of the season? Well, that is exactly what happened to a super keen young man from Bateman Bay last year, but Marli Dunn didn’t let a little thing like an arm in plaster keep him out of the water!
When 15-year-old Marli bust his arm and was forced to endure wearing a cast that would potentially have ruined any chance of snagging a few waves, young Marli began to think outside the box. In his determination not to miss out, he constructed a simple rope handle through the nose of his Bodyboard and took off like a man possessed to try out his new invention.
We have no idea how his cast held up in the water, or how itchy the cast must have been, filled with sand, after the sessions, but seeing the waves that Marli scored, it would have been a small price to pay. Not one to do things by halves and just catch a few gentle waves, Marli went at it with 100 percent dedication and was chucking himself about with the reckless abandonment of a frothing 15 year old, as you would expect!
The five minute clip was filmed by Marli’s buddy Ben Bettridge over a couple of sessions they scored before school last year and the great little video has an amusing start and a plotline to follow too. Marli is also looking for sponsorship, and with determination and drive like this I feel he would be a good investment for any potential sponsor out there? I have embedded the edit below, take a look and let us know if you have ever carried on Surfing with an injury at anytime or would you even think of Surfing with a broken arm?
