A couple of weeks ago we featured a clip of Laird Hamilton, laying down some great skills on his Paddleboard at Hanelai Bay. Today we bring you a second, all be it very short clip, of Laird and this time he has impressed us with his immense control of the SUP and his ability to stop it on a dime.
Laird picks off a lovely little peeler, an absolutely perfect Paddleboarding wave, and starts surfing his way towards the cameraman. If you look closely at the video, you will notice that he has dropped in with the board facing backwards and the fin is actually forward of Laird himself. As he approaches the rather sketchy film maker, Laird forces the board into slide that almost resembles a skateboarders power slide and powers the nose round – in fact it is reminiscent of a Snowboarder braking on their heel edge. At the same time he manages, to dramatically reduce the boards speed and casually stops the board alongside his pal.
This move is testiment to the physical prowess of Laird, to control the paddle board like that and force it to a halt would need extreme strength in the legs and most certainly the bodies core. As usual Laird confidently and almost smugly flashes his big white smile and it is hard to fail to be impressed with his talent.
